GOC Annual Events

Ben Stallings, GOC Board Member

“My wife Jessie and I moved to Omaha in 2018 after living in Emporia, Kansas for 10 years. In a small town, it had been easy to be well connected to all the environmental groups. When we decided to move to Omaha, I reached out to the one environmentalist I knew in town, and asked how I could get connected and find out what was happening with environmental groups. Without hesitation, he told me to subscribe to Green Omaha Coalition’s email list.

I was skeptical because I’d been part of another organization years ago that was not as inclusive as the word “coalition” implied, but this time was different. The weekly emails and online calendar have been the most reliable source of environmental information I’ve found in town. I attended events with Omaha Permaculture, Sierra Club, Conservation Nebraska, Keep Omaha Beautiful, Omaha Together One Community, Mode Shift Omaha, City Sprouts, the Big Garden, and more, all of which I learned about from the newsletter.

When an opportunity to join the GOC board arose, I jumped at the chance to give back to this organization and help shape its growth. I hope that you find it as valuable as I have.”
